Embosser!!

So I got a very exciting delivery today that included material that can be used to make personalised paper embossers. I ran together a really quick one at the end of the day - I am going to work on this a little more to get a deeper impression but here is a little preview. (click on the images for a better view)

Party favours/brandable items

Another great example of being able to put anything you like into the laser and end up with a cool result. I think these pencils and chopsticks would me great party favours at weddings/anniversaries/christening/etc....

They can also be used as a nifty little promotional item for just about anyone.

Mini houses

Another Christmas item. These houses are only about 3cmx3cm and they have a little hole in theback so that if they were hung from a tree the a tree light could be stuck in through the hole to illuminate the house (only for LED tree lights - not for any lights that heat up)

Laser video

Ok, so you have been reading me gush about a laser cutter for a few weeks now but you don't actually know what I am talking about?

Mike made this little video to demonstrate the process so check it out!

Wedding album

A simple attempt to personalise one of our wedding albums. It doesn't seem to work the best with the fabric on Kolo albums, but maybe with a little more testing of settings I might find a more effective result.

Clothespegs

Ok, so, with the laser I can take personalisation to ridiculous lengths - since getting it I can't walk into a single store without seeing hundreds of possibilities no matter how ridiculous.

This may be one of the more ridiculous ones.... The idea is that you could put your name or a greeting on these and use them on a gift bag or to hold ribbon together on a box or something like that.

I have done up a few with names and dates and more gift related phrases on them. For now you are getting some that would be made for a very very particular person. I'm sure there is someone out there in the universe who would take the time to hang up socks with "sock" labelled clothes pegs (although I know it isn't me)

Snowflakes

I'm starting work on a few Christmas decorations (sincere apologies to all of you for mentioning it so soon, but if I want to have products ready in time I need to start thinking about it now).

These are just some snowflake files that are handed out with the manufacturer of my Laser. I did them as a little experiment in materials and to see how quick they can be made.

Pretty happy with the result, a little work on the files to make them more unique (and possibly personalised) and I need to try them out in different colours - I may be on to a good thing here.

mini lights

These are small paper lanterns with battery powered led packs. They can be made in almost any colour and look great on a table or in a window or on a mantlepiece. It took a lot of searching to find suitable led packs but I think these ones are pretty effective.

Door

This commissioned project was to make the door of a boarding school as a gift for a past pupil. It was the first proper project I have been able to get stuck into with the laser and I learned a lot about the capabilities of the machine and will definitely use this file again in the future. I am fairly happy with the result, next time i may do a few things differently - but for a day's work it is pretty good.

Ikea drawers.

I have a couple of these plain sets of drawers from Ikea in my workroom. They come with little pieces of paper to indicate what is in each drawer, but the paper holders aren't designed right and it doesnt take much for the paper to fall out, so I quickly gave up on keeping them labeled. (You get what you pay for I guess)

This morning I realised that they are perfect for the laser, so I popped one in as a test and here is the result. I think it looks really great, I'll get on to labeling the rest later.

The Village is growing

A few more laser pieces now. The collection of small buildings is growing - right now I haven't found the right lights for illumination so they are all on a bit of a hodge-podge of lights in this picture. Next up I am going to do a few shops and a cottage.

Leinster ticket holder.

I made this as a thank you gift for someone who lent us their season tickets to go to a couple of Leinster rugby games. Since this year was also the year they won the Heineken cup I thought it would be a shame if the tickets weren't saved in a special way. I cut this all out with my Silhouette machine, I cut out holes for the tickets so that they were recessed into the blue card and flush with the surface. The lettering and logo is white vinyl.

some laser tests

These aren't anything special but just some tests to experiment with the laser.

First are a couple of wood tests, the amount of burn could do with some fine tuning but they are a pretty nice start. At the bottom is my memory stick. The painted steel lasers really nicely, I got the file a little crooked though!

More laserin'

I am going to do a lot of these little buildings. They are fantastically quick to draw, cut and make. With a light inside they will look great in the winter months (especially around christmas time). I plan on drawing up a whole town. This is a little chapel.

Laser cutting!

Yesterday I took delivery of an amazing tool. A 40watt CO2 laser with a 24"x12" bed. I have wanted one of these for over 2 years and now that i finally have one it is so exciting to finally be able to put so many of my ideas to use. I hope to get to the point where I have a range of affordable and unique items.

a small taste of the stuff I have done is here. First up is a personalised notebook. This is a really easy and effective thing to do and turns a plain and anonymous notebook into something special.

Next up is a quick light i came up with at the end of the day today. These can be in all kinds of colours. I think with my details on they make a nice little promotional tool but with just the snowflakes they will make a really nice window light.

Great big THANKS

More fun with cut outs. These Thank You cards are made to order and can be done in any number of colours. There is plenty of room left inside for a personal note incase you feel the point of the card doesn't get across!! These work best for people with shorter names but I'll give anything a try to see how it looks.

Baby announcements.

2011 seems to be the year of the baby, so I have been trying to develop a few baby announcement cards in honor of my new niece and niece/nephew. This is my work so far...
